Clients include employees who feel left out, intimidated, discrimination on gender/age/race and religion, in both small, medium or large company settings>br>
Clients in organisations, such as employees, customers, or managers who feel unable to cope with an unhealthy work atmosphere in which boundaries of good behaviour are crossed>br>
Clients at universities and school, such as students who feel intimidated, staff who are discriminated against by managers, and support staff harrassed by colleagues.
We offer first a listening ear, ensuring that the person who feels addressed wrongly gets a clearer picture of what has gone on, and what the actors are doing, and then aim at helping in the analysis and in considering options to stop unwanted and boundary crossing behaviour.
We not only provide the solutions, but go one step further in implementing the changes and providing long-term backup. When needed we assist in referring the client to outside expertise, and going along to ensure this is succesful.
- Policies and goals
Vertrouwenspersoon Nijmegen is an external, independent, high quality source of support on issues relating to psych-social safety in an organisation.
It was founded in 1999 when Tom Ammerlaan discovered that many foreign companies in the Nijmegen region were unaware of the business practices in the area, of the local regulations on business, and had staff from a range of cultural backgrounds. There are plenty of consultants, but these offer advice in Dutch, and rarely stres the communication component. Communicating changes and solutions, however, is as important as finding these. Investigation showed that the lingual franca in these international companies was English, and that specialised courses on Business English and Management proved highly effective in improving company awareness on issues like:
- Work Safety legislation
- Article 1 of the Dutch Law on discrimination
- Dutch culture on acceptable behaviour in commerce
- intercultural communication and the pitfalls of expectations and norms/mores
- improved leadership perception
- people management
- project management- the Dutch way
- international communication and culture
- Complaints and Appeal procedures in the Netherlands.....
Companies involved found that the ounseling improved the working conditions and
effectiveness of their business operations.

- Procedures
Generally the strict guidelines used by the Dutch LVV (National Dutch organisation of registered and certrified Confidential Counselors) are used both in the contacts with clients as in confidential registration and administration
.
- Prices
Due to the individual nature of the process, prices vary on the extent of support required: companies may desire a scan of their Complaints Procedurs and Bill of Rights, managers could desire training on safety at work, and in communicating
in intercultural settings, and clients may wish immediate or long-term talks to reach resolution. The basic rate is 115 Euro an

- Staff
Dr Ton Ammerlaan has many years of experience in working for Australian, English, Asian and Dutch
companies in Europe and Australia. He is an experienced lecturer, trainer and researcher in such
fields as communication, languages, linguistics and psychology. Recently,
Ton was first accredited and certrified by the LVV board in April 2021, and since then has taken cources on extra tuition on a range of topics in accredited courses.
